Cryovac® OS SystemsHow It Works |
 |
This polymer-based oxygen absorbing film uses breakthrough technology that is invisible to consumers because the scavenging component is coextruded as a layer of the package. Since they’re virtually invisible, OS Films do not alter the look of the package, and offer shoppers a clear view of the product inside. It is equally effective with wet or dry products because its scavenging action is initiated "on demand" on the processor’s packaging line by a patented ultraviolet-light triggering process.
Cryovac® Model 4212 Oxygen Scavenging Initiation System
Designed for use with existing packaging lines, the Cryovac® Model 4212 Scavenging Initiation System is an automated triggering unit that activates the unique oxygen scavenging performance of Cryovac® OS Films on command. The triggering unit effectively initiates the OS Film that removes residual oxygen from the package atmosphere.
- Automatically adjusts to provide the optimum the amount of "triggering" ultraviolet light exposure the OS Film receives
- New design significantly improves web handling and print registration control.
- Designed for improved economy and efficiency, the unit minimizes the amount of film in the unit at planned shutdowns. After operations are stopped, only four feet of triggered film remains in the machine.
- Constructed of stainless steel and is spray-compatible for sanitation purposes.
- Maintenance costs are minimized because the system keeps the lamps turned on at all times, maximizing their useful life.
Cryovac® Model 4100 Oxygen Scavenging Initiation System
The Cryovac® Model 4100 Oxygen Scavenging Initiation System is an ultraviolet-light triggering system designed specifically for use with Cryovac® OS Films. OS Films pass through the Model 4100 and are activated just before filling and sealing, so light never comes in contact with food and the full oxygen scavenging benefit is delivered. This system is designed to fit on existing packaging equipment. Because the film does not rely on an iron-based scavenging technology, it is completely invisible to metal detectors. Furthermore, you don’t need to place a non-food foreign object in your package.
Quick and Easy Scavenging Verification
By applying our Scavenging Verification System (SVS) label (patent pending) to triggered film, and then inserting the film and label into the SVS reader, positive verification of oxygen scavenging will typically occur in less than 30 minutes, but in no more than two hours. No needles are needed to run headspace analysis. Getting a positive scavenging verification means that the film has been activated and the film quality is good. It’s fast, safe and easy. The SVS reader automatically controls the temperature of the label and automatically repeats the readings until an acceptable or rejectable conclusion to the test is reached.
