Data Architecture: It's All About Decisions
Our vision for the future, articulated at several RFID conferences over the last several years, and in white papers published by the Smart Active Label Consortium is for better decision-making through EPC-compliant, shelf-life driven monitoring and logistics, at the pallet level, on perishable goods in the supply chain. RFID provides the key to unlocking this vision, and our TurboTag® solutions are synonymous with this vision.
TurboTag® solutions treat temperature monitoring as an important real-time decision-making process, not just a compliance process. In our commitment to delivering a powerful decision-making and data management solution, we have engineered a data architecture that is unique to the industry.
Each tag stores a user-defined set of rules for data analysis. These rules, or tag configuration parameters, are later transferred to the reader along with the monitoring results, then used in the generation of system outputs. Accept/reject decisions are supported by these outputs. Additionally, kinetic shelf life estimates are provided for better informed decisions about subsequent handling of goods according to "FEFO" principles (First Expiring, First Out).
For optimal archival data management, each tag stores three identifiers:
- a unique, read-only tag ID (ISO UID)
- a user-specified session ID (9-digit integer)
- a user-specified EPC (96 bits)
Using the two user-specified IDs, temperature data can be easily associated with UHF pallet tag IDs (EPCs) and/or tag locations on a container, pallet or truck, leading to better quality assurance through powerful temperature data analysis systems.
